Mrs. Sarah Beard and Mrs.Carlee Cornett, along with our first-ever middle school Odyssey of the Mind team, headed to Boyle County for the Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament. Odyssey of the Mind (OM™) teaches students how to develop and use their natural creativity to become problem-solvers. Our new team and coach participated in the OM Shadow Program. They were able to observe teams competing from across our state, talk with coaches, and explore how OM could fit within our current gifted programming. The KYOM Association Director, Mr. Michael Taylor, awarded a year-long membership to Estill County Schools for the 2026-2027 school year. We cannot wait to see what these students will gain next year as our first Odyssey of the Mind team! Thank you to Mr. Jimmy Cornn for leading the OM Shadow Program!

To mark the final day of Youth Art Month, we are excited to highlight the creativity of Estill County High School students through a unique cross-curricular experience. In Mrs. Middleton’s Junior English III classes, students combined literature and art to bring their learning to life.

As part of a Great Gatsby choice board project, students explored the novel through creative and thoughtful artistic expressions. From visual interpretations to imaginative designs, their work showcases a deep understanding of the text while demonstrating the power of creativity in the classroom.

We love seeing cross-curricular opportunities like this, especially when art and English come together, blending two of the most powerful forms of expression. We’re sharing just a few of the projects here, and you will find the full collection on the Estill County High School Facebook page.

Check out some of their incredible work below!

Today, freshmen and sophomore students from Estill County High School toured the Estill County Area Technology Center (ATC).

It was great to see current students leading demonstrations for their underclassmen, sharing what they love about the ATC, and to hear staff highlight the benefits of graduating work-ready. These students are fortunate to have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications in these fields while still in high school!
