Great news for Estill County Schools families!

Did you know that every student in the Estill County School System can receive FREE breakfast and lunch each school day?
We’re proud to provide nutritious meals that help our students stay fueled, focused, and ready to learn, all while helping families “lettuce” ease their grocery budgets!

Remember: Students should select at least 3 items at breakfast and 3 components at lunch for a qualifying meal, with at least one fruit or vegetable.
🍓 Free breakfast.
🥦 Free lunch.
📚 More energy for learning.
💰 A little extra help for our families.

(Available to in-person students.)

☀️🍎 We Served Up an AMAZING Summer! 🍎☀️

Welcome to the 2026-27 School Year, Engineers! We are glad that our hallways are filled with your smiling faces. While we celebrate the start of a new year, we want to take time to brag on some incredible people and incredible work from the summer!!!

Our Food Service Director and Food Service staff worked incredibly hard this summer to make sure children in our community had access to nutritious meals. Over just six weeks, our team distributed an incredible 6,138 seven-day meal packs! That means an average of 1,023 children received meal kits! And they didn’t stop there! Our Food Service team also provided meals for students attending our academies, children at 4-H Day Camp, and children at Playtime Daycare every day for six weeks.

The numbers tell an amazing story: 90,028 breakfasts and lunches were served this summer! That’s nearly DOUBLE the 45,912 meals served during summer 2025!

This year's program required adjustments, flexibility, long days, and a LOT of hard (and hot) work. Through it all, our Food Service staff showed up and got the job done. We are so proud of this team and incredibly thankful for the care they put into serving our children and community. A special THANK YOU to Jared Zerhusen for jumping in and lending a helping hand as well! Your support was greatly appreciated.

Please help us give our Food Service Director and the entire Food Service team a HUGE round of applause!

6 weeks. 6,138 meal packs. 90,028 meals. Countless hours of hard work. One AMAZING team!

Congrats to ECHS Social Studies teacher Mr. Jeff Brock! Mr. Brock was one of only 14 educators selected for the Monticello Teacher Institute at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. This week-long immersive residential fellowship—sponsored by the Thomas Jefferson Foundation—brings secondary social studies and history teachers together at Monticello and the Jefferson Library in Charlottesville, VA. While there, he explored Monticello’s grounds, learned from scholars such as Dr. Jane Kamensky, visited the University of Virginia campus, and conducted research at the Jefferson Presidential Library. He is honored to have represented Estill County High School and is looking forward to sharing what he learned with his students!

As we prepare to kick off another incredible school year, our district leadership has been learning, collaborating, and growing!

This week, administrators from across the Estill County School District attended the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA) Conference in Louisville, where they gained valuable ideas and strategies to bring back to our students, staff, and schools.

We are especially proud of Mrs. Chandler, Mrs. Beard, and Mrs. Brock, who represented Estill County by presenting a session on Instructional Coaching. Their willingness to share their expertise with educators from across the Commonwealth is a testament to the outstanding leadership within our district.

Here's to a fantastic 2026–2027 school year! Go Engineers!

Every great journey begins with a first stop.

Today we welcomed the newest members of the Estill County School District Family at our New Teacher Launch Day. Together, we learned, laughed, shared a meal, built new connections, and celebrated the beginning of an exciting journey.

We are grateful to our district leaders who invested their time and wisdom into preparing our newest teachers for the year ahead. Most importantly, we're excited to welcome an outstanding group of educators who have chosen to invest their talents in the students of Estill County.

Welcome aboard, Engineers! Your journey starts here, and we're so glad you're traveling with us.
