Community Education
Community education is an important part of our district’s commitment to bringing schools and the community together. As defined by KRS 160.155, community education programs use public school facilities as community centers, working in partnership with local organizations and agencies to provide educational, recreational, cultural, and related services that reflect the needs and interests of the community.
In our district, community education helps extend learning beyond the school day while strengthening connections between students, families, and community partners. By increasing access to school facilities and fostering collaboration, we create opportunities for engagement, shared resources, and meaningful experiences for all.
Our program supports lifelong learning, family involvement, and community engagement through enrichment activities, partnerships with local organizations, and participation in coordinated efforts to support families. Community Education also facilitates school volunteer involvement by coordinating and processing required background checks, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students.
If you would like to complete a volunteer background check, please contact Community Education Director, Melinda Barnett here or 606-643-2181 ext. 2226.
Community education plays a key role in building strong relationships, expanding opportunities, and supporting the overall well-being of our schools and community.
