Dear Student-Athletes, Parents, and Community,
As we are entering the new school year, I am looking forward to the future of Estill County High School athletics. Beginning the Fall 2019 school year, I will have the honor of serving as head Athletic Trainer and will be providing coverage for ECHS home games. As head Athletic Trainer, it is important for me to communicate with all coaches, players, and parents in order to provide quality care for the incoming student-athletes and to serve everyone involved. I would like to introduce myself and communicate what you may expect of our athletic training staff and all those supporting us at Bluegrass Orthopaedics.
My name is Kirsten West, an Estill County High School Graduate. I obtained a Bachelor of Science from the University of Kentucky in Kinesiology and Health Promotion with a focus on Exercise Science and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Eastern Kentucky University. Following graduation from EKU, I spent two years working with Hardin Memorial Health Sports Medicine providing coverage for the Elizabethtown Sports Park and assisting in coverage for Hardin, LaRue, and Meade County High Schools while obtaining my Master of Science in Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport from Western Kentucky University. I have experience with a multitude of sports including football, soccer, volleyball, softball, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, and wrestling. I am thrilled to be coming back to my alma mater as an Athletic Trainer!
In rural areas like Estill County, Athletic Trainers are not as common as other areas of the state. To be able to bring awareness and education about a field that I am so passionate about to a community that I am so passionate about, is an amazing honor. I will be providing home game coverage for the 2019-2020 school year. I’m thankful for the Estill County School system, Bluegrass Orthopaedics, and Marcum and Wallace Memorial Hospital for making this wonderful opportunity possible.
My main role as Head Athletic Trainer is to ensure the health and safety of our student-athletes. Our athletic training staff will be responsible for ECHS home event coverage. It is important that each coach, parent, and player knows that there is an open line of communication with me at all times. My contact information is provided, and I will do my best to make myself easily accessible.
I look forward to working with student-athletes, coaches, and parents of Estill County. If you have any questions or concerns in the upcoming months, please do not hesitate to contact me or any of our BGO Sports Medicine staff. Go Engineers!
Sincerely, Kirsten West, MS, LAT, ATC E-mail: kirsten.west@bluegrassortho.com
