  • Alert:

As we all know, due to the Coronavirus outbreak, all travel has been severely restricted and non-essential businesses have been closed.  This means that Spring Break plans for almost everyone has been canceled.

With this in mind, we are amending the school calendar for next week and these days will now be school days.  Due to this change, the last day of school for Estill County will now be May 14th

This change will allow us to keep our students on a routine that will ensure a continuation of instruction and other services.  All staff will still be available for our families and food service will continue to serve breakfast and lunch.  For any family that still has plans for this coming week, your student can complete their work at your discretion.

We will have further information tomorrow concerning the distribution on new NTI packets for days 11 – 20 as well as the return of work completed during the past 10 days.

  • Alert:

As a reminder, ALL Estill County athletic facilities are now closed to the general public.

Also, with the school closures, the KHSAA has suspended all spring sports and declared a dead period ending on April 19, 2020, at midnight.

Hello! My name is Shon Gray. I currently reside in Owsley County on the farm my family has lived on for five generations. I have four children, two of which reside with me, and two that live with their mother. My story is rather unique as this is only my second year teaching as I spent 17 years as a truck driver before becoming a teacher. I believe this gives me an edge on the content as I am able to give students perspective on real-life applications to math, especially as I have incorporated many of the components into my life as a truck driver and enjoy sharing those cross applications with my students.

While working on my undergraduate degree, I served UNITE AmeriCorps at Owsley County Elementary for two years as an assistant classroom instructor and oversaw all anti-drug curriculum in the district. Once that contract expired, I worked as a classroom tutor at Owsley County Middle School for an additional year. I completed my Bachelors Degree in 2017 at Midway University with a major in education with emphasis on middle school mathematics. I am currently pursuing my Masters Degree from Midway University in hopes to enhance my abilities and daily teaching practices. I spent my first year teaching at South Laurel Middle School and am happy to call myself an Engineer and look forward to the experience of working with my students and watching them grow into mathematicians.

My planning is from 12:30 to 1:30. Please feel free to contact me any school day either at that time or immediately following the school day either by phone at 723-5136 or by email at shon.gray@estill.kyschools.us.
