  • Alert:

As we all know, due to the Coronavirus outbreak, all travel has been severely restricted and non-essential businesses have been closed.  This means that Spring Break plans for almost everyone has been canceled.

With this in mind, we are amending the school calendar for next week and these days will now be school days.  Due to this change, the last day of school for Estill County will now be May 14th

This change will allow us to keep our students on a routine that will ensure a continuation of instruction and other services.  All staff will still be available for our families and food service will continue to serve breakfast and lunch.  For any family that still has plans for this coming week, your student can complete their work at your discretion.

We will have further information tomorrow concerning the distribution on new NTI packets for days 11 – 20 as well as the return of work completed during the past 10 days.

  • Alert:

As a reminder, ALL Estill County athletic facilities are now closed to the general public.

Also, with the school closures, the KHSAA has suspended all spring sports and declared a dead period ending on April 19, 2020, at midnight.

My name is Tamyra Frazier and I am blessed to be the School Counselor at Estill Springs Elementary. This is my second year as counselor here, but I have worked in Estill County previously and loved it.  I am glad to be back!  I look forward to working together each year to make it a successful one for the students, parents, faculty and staff.  I have provided you with some information about what a school counselor is and what you can expect from me as your school counselor.  I am excited to continue this school year serving your children and ending the year strong!

What is a School Counselor?

I am a  certified, trained, and caring professional who works with all students, parents, teachers, staff and the community, in order for every student to achieve academic and social success. School Counseling services are delivered in four specific ways:

Classroom Counseling Curriculumdesigning ,structuring, and delivering classroom lessons so that students develop specific outcome-driven competencies in all grades 1-2 (personal/social, academic, career)and driven by the needs of the school population.

Individual Student Planning- assisting students with goal formation/planning (behavioral, academic, etc.)

Responsive Servicesmeeting immediate student needs (counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, referral, peer mediation, information-providing)

System Supportschoolwide program planning and implementation (PBIS, ABRI, Leadership Teams, etc.), consulting with other professionals, coordination of various supports for students and families??

How does your child experience school counseling services?

Individual Counseling- I may work with a student in a safe, positive, and confidential setting to address issues that 'get in the way of' school achievement. Topics are based on the needs of the student and may include: understanding feelings, changing families/divorce, grief, stress, social skills, academics, bullying, problem-solving, and decision-making.

Small Group Counseling- A process where students sharing similar issues or concerns work together in a small group environment consisting of about 3-6 students. The group sessions usually last about 30 minutes and meet for approximately 6-8 weeks. Topics are based on the needs of the students and may include divorce or changing families, grief and loss, friendship and social skills, study skills, conflict resolution, anger management, self-esteem, and stress-management.  Referrals can be made by teachers and/or parents/guardians.  Parental permission will always be obtained before entering a student in a counseling "group" or for individual counseling that last for mare than several weeks.

Classroom Counseling Lessons- I develop and implement 1-2 classroom curriculum driven by national and county school counseling outcomes.  I plan lessons to support social and emotional growth across curricular areas.  Classroom lessons are regularly scheduled and address personal, social, academic, and career-related needs at the child's developmental level.  Topics may include self-esteem, conflict resolution, study skills, anger management, career awareness, tattling/reporting, friendship/social skills, responsibility, respect, teasing/bullying, feelings, cooperation, goal setting/decision-making, and peer pressure.  I will work hard to either send home a letter to parents or post on this page after each and every weekly classroom lesson because I believe that a strong home-school partnership is what's best for kids.  Your child will come to my classroom with their class every other week for a 30 minute guidance lesson as a whole group.
