  • Alert:

As we all know, due to the Coronavirus outbreak, all travel has been severely restricted and non-essential businesses have been closed.  This means that Spring Break plans for almost everyone has been canceled.

With this in mind, we are amending the school calendar for next week and these days will now be school days.  Due to this change, the last day of school for Estill County will now be May 14th

This change will allow us to keep our students on a routine that will ensure a continuation of instruction and other services.  All staff will still be available for our families and food service will continue to serve breakfast and lunch.  For any family that still has plans for this coming week, your student can complete their work at your discretion.

We will have further information tomorrow concerning the distribution on new NTI packets for days 11 – 20 as well as the return of work completed during the past 10 days.

  • Alert:

As a reminder, ALL Estill County athletic facilities are now closed to the general public.

Also, with the school closures, the KHSAA has suspended all spring sports and declared a dead period ending on April 19, 2020, at midnight.

I have a BA in English (secondary teaching) with a minor in philosophy from Eastern Kentucky University.  I also have a MA in American & British Literature, also from EKU.  In 2004 I become a fellow in the National Writing Project.

I began my teaching career in 1993 as a substitute teacher for the Estill County Board of Education where I worked mainly with high school students and completed two long-term jobs for English teachers.  The following year, I taught at Estill County High School teaching all levels of English before moving to the middle school to teach 8th grade reading and homebound (K-12) for one year. I then moved into a full-time language arts position at Estill County Middle School where I've been ever since.

I currently teach 8th grade language arts.  During my time at the middle school I have served as academic team coach, writing cluster leader, language arts & reading component leader, site-based council member, committee leader, and team leader.
I'm a native of Estill County, and I've lived here most of my life.  I love books, music, and dogs.  My husband is Stanley Spradlin, who teaches computer literacy at Foley Middle in Berea.  I have a stepson, Logan, who lives in Louisville.  We have five Shih Tzus, two guinea pigs, an assortment of fish, and two mini schnauzer grandpuppies.
